Catching up!!

OK, so it's Sat the 6th and yes, I am late posting. One major factor in this boating thing that we had totally forgot (from our sailing days) was how utterly exhausted you are after moving for a day on the water. Especially when your boat's water behavior is new to you, the waterway is new, the anchoring behaviour of the boat is new, the weather is always a concern......needless to say, at the end of each day we were wiped out!! Our 3rd night was spent at a marina in Thunderbolt SC, just south of Savannah. The weather that day was again beautiful. We passed thru Hell Gate as well as another notorious area with no problems (that makes 3 now) and feel really good about that!! We decided to try to make it to Beaufort, SC in 4 days instead of 5 as the weather was due to change. Soooooo we left at 7:30 the next am and arrived in Beaufort around 2:30. Again, the weather cooperated and we were grateful as we had to cross a large sound (entrance to the ocean) and they can get real goosey in the wind. We were fortunate to have picked just a great marina - small, basic and filled with wonderful people. We were family the minute we stepped on the dock! Spent the next day cleaning up the boat - what a pit, inside and out! Last eve they all invited us to go with them to a "joint" just down the street that serves steak, baked potato and corn for $10. It was fabulous and the steak was almost as large as your plate! On Wed nights they serve cheeseburgers and hot dogs with two sides for $4 and Thurs nights is two pork chops and two sides for $5!!!! All kinds of good places to eat within walking distance of the boat. This being car-less is an interesting experience. The marina manager will take you wherever you need to go and one of the boaters here offered us his truck, but so far it has been fine. The grocery is about half a mile away so this am we took the backpack and two bags and headed out. We filled up all of them and it was great exercise. On the way back a school was offering car washes and one of the girls stopped us and asked us if we had a car. I wish you could have seen her face when we said no - she was absolutely speechless and just kind of went blank. I mean, not having a car is not even imagineable!!! She couldn't respond at all! They have a large grassy area here with a golf club (wedge) and some balls. This afternoon we let Sam off the leash so he could chase the balls Alan hit. He had so much fun!! Both boys are doing great. Sam went 31 hours without doing his business, and even then he didn't seem to be in any hurry to get at it!! Ted will go on the carpet pad on the foredeck, but not his big business so he was really ready!! It is pretty amazing how they have adapted to the boat!! Tomorrow it is supposed to rain, but we are anxious to get on the bikes and get around to do some sightseeing. There is so much history here and such a beautiful area!! Look for more pix!!
